DARIA SOKÓŁ

TAROT

Somewhere over the years, my interest in the world of magic and divination evolved into being a part of it. Between meditating, offering prayers, and cleansing my own aura, Tarot cards entered the picture. We’ve all seen witches in movies shuffling cards and predicting the future from them. That’s not quite how it works. The cards are like symbols, and the person laying them out can weave stories from those symbols.

Much of the interpretation depends on the character of the reader. However, the symbols on the cards remain constant. Since reading the cards has become a part of my daily life, I wanted to infuse them with my own style. I analyzed several cards and created an equation as the foundation for crafting digital collage graphics. The choice of cards was influenced by two 5-card divinations.

The Tarot cards are divided into the Major and Minor Arcana. The Major Arcana can be interpreted as a collection of 22 archetypal situations, characters, and roles that people encounter in their life’s journey. At the beginning of this path stands the Fool, and at the end, the World. The Minor Arcana are further divided into four suits: Coins, Swords, Wands, and Cups.

Each suit contains 10 numbered cards and 4 court cards:

Wands to the element of fire and symbolize energy and strength.

Pentacles the element of earth and symbolize the material world and worldly matters.

Swords correspond to the element of air and symbolize intellect and communication.

Cups correspond to the element of water and symbolize creative abilities.
